Cammy MacGregor

Background

Most of Cammy’s life has revolved around tennis and pickleball courts. Her career in racquet sports began at the age of seven, growing up and playing tennis at the renowned Jack Kramer Tennis Club in Palos Verdes, California. Throughout her youth, Cammy participated in top junior tennis tournaments, steadily developing her skills and competitive edge.

During her senior year of high school, Cammy made the pivotal decision to turn professional. She then embarked on a 10-year career on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, where she competed at all the major Grand Slam events. Among her accomplishments, she reached the fourth round in singles at the 1989 Australian Open and the women’s doubles quarterfinals in 1990. Cammy achieved a career-high ranking of No. 75 in singles and No. 39 in doubles, marking her as a formidable presence on the professional circuit.

Upon retiring from the professional tour, Cammy took on the role of Director of Tennis at Rancho La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California, a position she held for ten years. In 2009, following her marriage to Darrin, Cammy relocated to Vista, California. The following year, she became a tennis instructor at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad. Even during this period, Cammy remained active in competitive tennis, participating in open tournaments and Inter-sectional competitions, proudly representing Southern California.

In 2015, Cammy was introduced to the sport of pickleball by her friends, Steve and Jennifer Dawson. This new chapter marked a significant transition from her long-standing involvement in tennis to embracing pickleball, a sport that would quickly become a major focus in her life.

After gaining experience and enthusiasm for pickleball over the next couple of years, in 2017, Cammy and her husband, Darrin, decided to launch their own business, “C&D Pickleball Nets.” Through this venture, they have supplied nets for major tours, including the APP, PPA, and national tournaments, contributing to the growth and accessibility of the sport at various competitive levels.

Cammy is dedicated to advancing the sport of pickleball beyond traditional venues. She volunteers her time to introduce and teach pickleball in local prisons throughout Southern California, helping to bring the benefits of the game to underserved populations and supporting rehabilitation efforts within the community.

Beyond her impressive achievements on the court, Cammy values the deep and lasting friendships she has built through pickleball. She reflects on these relationships with great pride, emphasizing that the bonds formed with fellow players over the years are among her most cherished accomplishments. When discussing her journey in pickleball, Cammy expressed her gratitude and amazement: “I can’t believe a little game where you hit a plastic wiffle ball back and forth across a net has given me so many wonderful, long-lasting friends. That makes me the biggest winner of all!"
